Preserving and Celebrating Black Music
Media OutreachProject Scope
The National Museum of African American Music is the only museum in the world dedicated to preserving and celebrating the role of Black music in creating the soundtrack of our lives. Through more than two decades of planning, the project overcame multiple challenges such as fundraising, political issues, COVID-19 and construction delays. MP&F was engaged to lead the charge on media relations and provide strategic communications counsel as the museum neared its opening date.
Solution
MP&F pitched local, regional and national media to garner as much media coverage as possible while raising awareness of the NMAAM. We then partnered with agencies in Atlanta and Chicago to create a once-in-a-lifetime grand opening celebration/week to launch this culture-shifting venue in the heart of Music City. Nashville will never be the same.
Results
Our persistent media relations efforts paid off, with coverage coming from every national media outlet we pitched, and many, many more. Highlights have included ESSENCE, Billboard, USA Today, The New York Times and CNN. Since we began, there have been more than 3,000 media stories garnering a reach of millions of people.
