505 Offering Free Shoes and Fitness Consult to New Buyers and Renters

505 Offering Free Shoes and Fitness Consult to New Buyers and Renters

By MP&F Staff

What began as an offhand comment during a transit briefing to the Nashville Downtown Partnership on Wednesday is now the newest promotion for the few remaining units at the 505.

Nashville Metropolitan Transit Authority CEO Stephen Bland was briefing the NDP Board of Directors about upcoming transit improvements. Discussion moved to traffic in the downtown area, and Bland remarked that walking was still the most efficient form of transportation.

That prompted Tom Turner, President and CEO, to suggest that developer and board member Tony Giarratana offer free shoes to new renters or buyers at the 505, which opened late last year.

Within a couple of hours, Giarratana, in consultation with his team Morgan Stengel (a veteran of the Boston Marathon) and Jenny McClain, put together a promotion that gives new buyers or renters at 505 a certificate for a new pair of shoes from Rhythm Running and a free fitness consult or session from City Fit Concierge, which has a location in the 505.

Walk Score, which helps people find walkable neighborhoods in which to live, rates downtown Nashville as a “walker’s paradise” with a recent score of 95 on a scale of 100.

“It was a casual comment thrown out during what was a very interesting presentation by Steve Bland,” Giarratana said. “When I look at the transformation of downtown over the last few years, I get really excited that we are truly a neighborhood these days, with easy walking access to entertainment, sporting events, restaurants and the necessities of everyday life.”

When Giarratana mentioned the possible promotion to Derrick Billups, owner and founder of City Fit Concierge, he was all in.

“I am all about fitness, and the opportunity to combine that with discovering your new downtown neighborhood made it all the more exciting,” Billups said.

He contacted Rhythm Running, located on Demonbreun Street, and the deal was done.

Crissy Cassetty, retail recruiter for NDP, told the board more than a million square feet of new retail and restaurant development is underway, including Nashville Yards and Fifth + Broadway.

The promotion dovetails with the 505’s participation in the 2018 American Lung Association’s “Fight for Air Climb” on Saturday, Nov. 3, during which participants will get to challenge their time in climbing to the top of the 45-story, 525-foot-tall 505 building.

The shoe/fitness promotion is good through October 2018.
