MP&F: A History of Comebacks for 30 Years

This has been a remarkable year for MP&F Public Relations. We have celebrated our 30th anniversary, in ways large and small, all year long. It has been the best year in our history, with more than $8 million in billed fees. The future is bright, and as long as we can continue to attract the smartest, most motivated, effective and caring people, I know that the company will continue to prosper. It hasn’t always been like this. I wanted to look back over the past 30 years at some of the major challenges, and successes, that the people at MP&F …

It was a real honor to introduce MP&F partner Alice Chapman as a new member of the Downtown Nashville Rotary Club recently. The experience reminded me of something very special about our workplace as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of our company. People stick around. I talked about how Alice was the first, and so far only, person to start here at the entry level and become an equity partner. Back in 2011, my friend Gini Dietrich asked me and several of our marketing and PR colleagues nationally to write one-pagers for a book she was working on titled “Dear CEO: Letters to the C-Suite from Experts on Vision, Culture, Community, and Integration.” The advice was to help organizations make it through the Great Recession. Our partner Mike Pigott’s untimely passing in June was a historic low for our company. We lost not only a great practitioner, but a great person. There is not a day that has gone by since June 29 that I have not wanted to ask his advice or opinion on something related to our company, our …

Memories of Mike

The Gerst House. Nov. 8, 1988. Election Day. Mike Pigott’s 34th birthday. George Bush was elected president that day. It was the day and place Mike and I sealed the deal to go into business together, therefore one of the scariest days of my life, but also one of the best days of my life. They buried my friend and partner Mike last week, and the grief and emotions have been nonstop, igniting hundreds of memories, good and bad, but mostly the wonderment about how successful Mike was, what a huge impact he had on the community, and the outpouring of …
