IT solutions company 3-D Technology Group, LLC has been a strong supporter of the Nashville Technology Council’s (NTC) summer camp program for the past two years, but this year it took its support to a new level by donating 10 iPads to the Programming Camp for kids ages 8 to 12.
The weeklong camp ran from June 11-15 at NTC’s Tech Hill Commons and focused on teaching beginner-level coding students to program with Dash Robots. The iPads from 3-D Technology added an essential learning tool to the process. Using Dash apps on the iPads, campers practiced programming the robots to navigate objects and complete different tasks.
“3-D was honored to provide resources that further the development of these Davidson County students’ technology skills,” said 3-D Technology CEO Christopher Martinez. “We fully support the NTC’s goal to invest in the next generation of Nashville’s tech leaders.”
Both organizations see value in promoting the technology field among younger students. “Over half of the campers received a scholarship to camp,” said NTC President and CEO Brian Moyer. “The volume of scholarships we were able to award for this year’s Programming Camp was due to the support from tech companies like 3-D Technology.”
In addition to coding and programming, the summer camps aim to teach teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, logical thinking and digital literacy.
A Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools teacher and a college student co-taught the camp. Students also had the opportunity to meet and learn from industry professionals throughout the week.
The camp closed with a “Demo Day” for friends and family at the end of the week, where students had the chance to showcase the robots and demonstrate the programs they learned to code during camp.
