OVC Extra Blog Selects Campus Correspondents

By MP&F Staff

The Ohio Valley Conference has selected its first campus correspondents for its OVC Extra blog.

The blog, now in its second year, updates fans with human interest and behind-the-scenes features and content from around the OVC, and by adding student correspondents, OVC Extra will have direct access to the latest breaking news and stories.

“We are very excited to welcome these talented students aboard in this important and dynamic time of growth in the conference,” said Commissioner Beth DeBauche. “As students at OVC institutions, the correspondents will be provided an opportunity to hone their skills in a variety of areas of communication as they learn from professional public relations executives.”

Corey Adams, a junior at Austin Peay, spent three years covering mixed martial arts for TheMMMCorner.com before leaving in early 2014 to write for The All State, the student-run newspaper, and Austin Peay’s Sports Information Department.

Tyler Van Bussum, a recent graduate of the University of Kentucky, is a master’s candidate in Belmont University’s Sport Administration program.

Joe Nalefski, currently a senior in Eastern Illinois’ Communication Studies program, is a professional photographer and recently worked with the United Soccer Leagues’ Des Moines Menace.

Originally from Versailles, Ind., Morgan Romans is a sophomore sports management major at Eastern Kentucky University, currently working in public relations through EKU’s athletic department.

Zach Senvisky lettered for two years as a member of Morehead State’s football team and now works as a broadcaster and reporter for WMKY radio.

A sophomore at Southern Illinois University–Edwardsville, Richelle Gonzalez is a member of the American Marketing Association and a pre-business major.

Arijana Anderson, a sophomore mass communications major, is an outside hitter on the Tennessee State University women’s volleyball team.

Gabriella Farley, a sophomore at Tennessee Tech, is a journalism and communications major who interned in sports information last year and currently works as a co-editor for Tech’s yearbook, “The Eagle.”

Halle Pinkham, a senior member of the Murray State women’s soccer team, interned with Country Music Television in 2013 and currently hosts the Pepsi Athlete of the Week segment on GoRacers.com.

Weaver, Ala., native Chris Brown is a sophomore at Jacksonville State University majoring in communications and digital journalism. Brown serves as a student worker within the JSU Sports Information Department.

MaryLynn Williams is a senior communications-broadcast journalism major at University of Tennessee at Martin. She also serves as an ESPNU correspondent and previously served as sports director and news director for the award-winning campus radio station WUTM-FM The Hawk.

“In addition to opportunities for writing and marketing, these students will learn about intercollegiate athletics in bringing awareness to the blog,” DeBauche added. “Providing this diverse group of students the opportunity to learn and grow is consistent with the Conference’s values and commitment to excellence.”
