FMCNA’s Acumen Physician Solutions Division Unveils Acumen 2.0, Powered by Epic

By MP&F Staff

Acumen 2.0Acumen Physician Solutions, a subsidiary of Fresenius Medical Care North America (FMCNA), today announced that it has selected Epic to power Acumen 2.0. This partnership between the nation’s two largest providers of electronic health records (EHRs) for nephrologists enables information sharing and provider communication on a scale unmatched in the marketplace.

“Our collaboration with Epic delivers next generation EHR capabilities for our valued physicians and clinicians, improving usability and enhancing data sharing capabilities,” says Bill Valle, Chief Executive Officer for FMCNA. “The ability to connect the vast majority of our caregivers through Epic’s feature rich tools will empower our providers and their patients with actionable data—where and when they need it—and underscores our efforts to be the clear partner of choice for physicians.”

Epic is the information backbone for a many of the largest integrated health systems in the world, a broad connected community for patient information comprising 405 health care organizations covering 41,200 clinics, 1,950 hospitals, and over 336,000 physicians. In the United States, the Epic community cares for over 58% of the total patient population. Epic’s growing footprint of nearly 2,000 hospitals and extensive integration with hospital systems will provide Acumen 2.0 customers with improved access to important patient data to help make more informed and timely decisions.

“Acumen 2.0 improves out-of-the-office workflow efficiency for our many physicians who spend considerable time in hospitals working as consultants and/or attending to their own patients in clinics,” said Dr. Frank Maddux, FMCNA’s Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President for Clinical and Scientific Affairs, and Founder of Acumen Physician Solutions. “Enhancing access to patient data will not only improve care coordination and the user experience for our physicians, but will also drive innovation and quality for the benefit of the patients entrusted to our care.”

Acumen 2.0 presents a significant upgrade of Acumen’s current health IT products to help nephrologists be successful in this changing era of healthcare. Systems interoperability, data sharing and care coordination are increasingly important for population health management efforts, especially for patients under risk-based care models, including the nearly 20 percent of Fresenius Medical Care’s dialysis patients that are expected to be under some form of risk-based care by the end of 2017.
